The Imitation Game
Editor Notes
Plot
Alan Turing, a British mathematician, makes history by breaking the German U-boat Enigma cipher in World War II and ensures Allied-American control of the Atlantic. But his vision goes far beyond the desperate wartime struggle. In 1945 he pioneers electronic computer design. But Turing's true goal is the scientific understanding of the mind. He creates the "Turing test" for machine intelligence. Drawn in to the cockpit of world events and the forefront of technological innovation, Turing is also an innocent and unpretentious gay man trying to live in a society that criminalizes him. In 1952, he reveals his homosexuality and is forced to participate in a humiliating treatment program, and is ever after regarded as a security risk. His suicide in 1954 remains one of the many enigmas in an astonishing life story.
